    The NCG York Summer School

A historic place of learning and culture

Regularly voted one of the best cities to visit in the UK, York is the perfect place for one of our

English Language Schools. It’s a student-friendly, charming, contemporary and iconic city – full of vibrant history and rich heritage.

There’s plenty of opportunity to soak up some true British culture, in a very British setting. York has become a UNESCO City of Media Arts – and is a veritable haven for art, film and theatre enthusiasts. York also has a wealthy and eclectic literary history – from medieval plays to being a creative catalyst for the likes of Charles Dickens, who visited York on numerous occasions, including once during a tour of readings in 1870.

The city boasts beautiful cultural highlights, like the York Art Gallery that showcases compelling collections, from 16th century masters to modern exhibitions. Or the grand and gothic York Minster – one of the most magnificent cathedrals in the world, widely recognised as a prominent cultural and religious icon.

    York’s prestigious British boarding school

Our English language course will give you the opportunity to study English whilst being immersed in traditional British culture. The York Summer School is located at the Queen Ethelburga’s College – close to the city, it’s a dazzling and delightful location with fantastic facilities.

As well as getting to study English from monday to friday, we have organised a variety of enriching activities and events to enhance your learning experience.

Including – exciting excursions to nearby cities, like Newcastle and Manchester – getting to explore the Discovery Museum and Old Trafford respectively. You’ll get the opportunity to take a trip to the York Chocolate Story, a journey into the city’s history of chocolate-making – and take a tour of a Viking-age street at the Jorvik Viking Centre.

You’ll also have plenty of free time while you study English – allowing you to take in the sites as you see fit. Catch a piece of theatre at the York Theatre Royal or Grand Opera House, discover museums and galleries galore – and even indulge yourself at Betty’s tea rooms.

If shopping is your thing, an appreciative appraisal of The Shambles might be in order, believed to be the oldest shopping street in Europe. Return to the streets at night for an abundance of ghoulish ghost tours and walks – or check out the York Dungeon.

    Self-contained for your study

You’ll get to combine your English Language Course with our British Cultural Experience programme, in a dedicated and fully self-contained campus. All ages from 11 to 17 will be welcome from 1st July to 29th July 2018.

Stay at high quality shared accommodation with ensuite bathrooms at our York Summer School, with a full board meal plan.

The school is fully equipped for you – including modern classrooms, a swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis and indoor sports courts, football and rugby pitches, along with a games room and canteen.
